For queer and gender non conforming people, something as deceivingly simple as the length of a coat or the cut of jeans can be what allows someone to go through their day confidently feeling like themselves. When this is taken away or denied, it can be devastatingly painful. These panels feature hand-stitched images of different clothes that comfort and affirm me. With each tiny stitch, I hold on to that joy and to the cultural signifiers that have passed through queer generations. In the face of national threats to our communities, these clothes are not just clothes and never have been.
