Noted
Statement from 2021:
Even as 2020 and 2021 have challenged us in seemingly unprecedented ways, repetition and echo have dominated conversation. Sudden plunges into collective trauma and disillusionment have been accompanied by a new vocabulary, and this vocabulary has been used over and over to politely and vaguely reference these issues. “Noted” takes inspiration from this repetition. Each piece is a note ripped from an imaginary notebook. This notebook includes reminders of euphemisms, understatements, and circular conversations that we expect each other to use day-to-day. Other pages feature self-portraits that could be doodled as one’s attention span stretches thin during hours of virtual meetings. The repetition of text and form in each piece aims to mirror the way that days and conversations have echoed one another in the past year.
All pieces are thread and embroidery floss on canvas fabric, roughly 7.5” x 10.5”.
Volume One is the latest edition to this series, and binds together the sentiments of the loose leaf pages. This piece was recently awarded an Honorable Mention at the Nineteenth ArtsWorcester Biennial and has been published in Worcester Magazine.
